The Kyoto Protocol, which came into effect in the winter of 2005, was a major global initiative to offset carbon emissions and reduce the impacts of Global Warming. However, despite its ambitions, the United States, one of the world’s biggest contributors to CO2 emissions, failed to commit to it treaty and the treaty feel short of its key aims. The protocol’s aim was to deduct carbon emissions by 5.2c in industrialised countries, which would help to restrict the level of environmental damage caused as a result of greenhouse gases. The Kyoto Protocol expires in 2012 and is in need of a replacement that will produce bigger, bolder ambitions to prevent Global Warming from becoming an irreversible catastrophe. The Copenhagen climate change summit, which took place in December 2009, was a unique opportunity for world countries to secure an agreement and work together to decrease CO2 emissions and was attended by everybody from politicians to emergency fuel suppliers. Unfortunately, the summit was widely regarded as a major failure and was a serious setback, as no formal resolution had been agreed. It would have initiated a resolution which would have reduced emissions to a specific figure by the year 2050, enabling all countries to commit an agreement.

Director of Friends of the Earth Europe, Magda Stoczkiewicz, has reiterated his concerns surrounding Global Warming and climate change. She says that all countries must play a role in helping to tackle the effects of greenhouse emissions and has been quoted as saying that all governments must recognise that man is responsible for climate change and that the crisis is as much an energy problem as it is an environmental one. She describes how the target of a 20 percent reduction in CO2 emissions in the EU by 2020 is completely inadequate and how tougher, more ambitious targets must be made if countries are to prevent the potentially devastating impacts of climate change from arising in the future.

Some people love it, others don’t. Some countries are comparing it to hard drugs such as cocaine, while others claim it is no more harmful than alcohol or cigarettes. Be that as it may, when it comes to cosmetics, marihuana is definitely the little plant, that can.

Cultivated from the commercial cannabis (not the kind you buy in a dark alley, and smoke in your room) come the magic beens called Hemp seeds, which have extremely high amounts of essential fatty acids, omega-3, and omega-6. In other words, you could hardly give your skin a healthier meal. What all these oils do is nourish the dry skin, and also slow down the aging process. Now doesn’t THAT sound like a hole in one?

What also strikes me as a major turn on when it comes to beauty products based on weed is the fact that they tend to be more organically produced, as your average skin care product. Organic can never be bad when it comes to things you put on your skin day in and day out, possibly even more than once per day. Call me crazy, but isn’t it just a little bit scary if you think about all the chemicals you and me aren’t even capable of pronouncing, are put in our facial creams, body lotions, shampoos, and make up? The bad side of cosmetics made out of cannabis is its price. While it’s not crazy expensive, it still lingers a price range higher than the cheapest cream you can get in the supermarket, and if you’re a student who is working hard to make ends meet, every penny counts.

However, in my mid-twenties wisdom and with the potential threat of finding a new wrinkle every single day hanging over my head, I have decided that splurging on cosmetics is not really splurging, but rather a must. If you give your skin, body, and hair the treatment they deserve, they show it, and if you don’t, they punish you for it. Therefore even if you’re not going to be attending the next town marihuana march, and you dislike stoners, don’t hate on the plant. Every beauty expert on the planet says that its good for you, so if I were you, I would definitely give this one a go.

Here are some of the key indicators of climatic changes across the world.

The sea level is one of the prime indications of the climatic change. The coastal tide gauge records the average level of sea over a period of time. These measurements are done via global satellites and are updated every month. The general rise in sea level is believed to be caused by the thermal expansion of water due to rise in climatic temperatures.

The Arctic sea ice now reaches its lowest levels during the month of September every year. It is said the temperatures around the arctic are rising at the rate of 2 – 3 degrees every year. This results in the melting of ice which may again result in natural calamities.

Carbon dioxide concentration also contributes to climate change. This greenhouse gas is released through natural and man-made processes, mainly though deforestation and burning fossil fuels (which has been happening at such a rate, most industries are starting to delve into emergency fuel supplies). During the last three glacial cycles, it has been noted that the carbon levels have risen to an alarming level.

Global surface temperatures are being recorded and averaged over a five-year-period. When the annual temperature rises, it is natural that the surface temperature also rises with it. The temperatures are on an all time high right now, thanks to global warming! Canada, the UK and other northern countries experience a great deal of this heat.

The ozone hole is one of the prime indicators of climate change. Holes are formed in this layer due to human-produced compounds such as chlorine and bromine. The ozone is essential and acts as a protective layer between the sun and the earth, blocking ultraviolet rays. Continuous climate change is likely to cause the holes to grow bigger!

It is important that we all do what is necessary to prevent the worst case senario from happening in the near future.

I remember my University days, where everything seemed to be so expensive, it cost hundreds to have a decent shop with the girlfriends, or a night out after a long day in the lecture halls.

We all known unpaid voluntary work doesn’t pay you in money, but in the sense that you did good for an organisation, and a good reference. But from reading an article on BBC news, it can be bloody expensive!

While having an early morning browse with a coffee, I was shocked to hear in this article, that somebody ended up spending over £400 in food and transport costs for one internship. I spent less than half that amount on my first holiday with mates at Uni, we went to sunny Spain, I remember soaking up the sun perched on my turquoise beach towel, money well spent. All right, it doesn’t compare to an internship, but I know that I would have been better off staying at home than going to an internship and being £400 worse off! It goes to show that some people would rather take telesales and other part time paid work than volunteer. I took as much part time paid work as I could, to make up for the spending at Uni and to put some away to pay off the finance.

Unpaid internships aren’t all that bad. I did one in a law office and I thought it was the best ever, I would have paid to do it. However they were kind enough to pay for my transport costs and gave me a free lunch. In face I’m still in contact with some of the guys, it was fun. However I wouldn’t fork out £400 for one.

I watched the movie How To Lose A Guy In 10 Days and oh my gosh it’s so true. Why do women do all of those things? We go all out to please our men and trying to get them to be crazy about us. From pedicures to Skin rejuvenation treatments, we do it all just to get noticed. I sat and pondered about all of the things that I have done that now in retrospect seem crazy. At the time of course nothing seemed crazy but now it does. I can’t figure out how things can become so twisted in our own minds.

I had a boyfriend who cheated on me. I knew he cheated and was infuriated about it. He was five states away and had turned off his phone. I knew it was off and continued to repeatedly call it. I don’t know why but at the time this seemed completely rational. I wanted answers. I couldn’t wait. I knew he was probably at the bar with the girl he cheated on me with and yet I didn’t care. I deserved to know. What answer was I looking for? I still to this day do not know what I wanted to know. I mean I know I wanted to know why he did it but, was the reason going to matter? It wouldn’t have made me feel better. Only time fixed that hurt.

This movie also showed how women try to mother their boyfriends. Granted it is usually unintentional but, we have all been guilty of this at one time or another. Encouraging them to eat the veggie they hate or pick their boxers up and put them in the hamper. To guys this is mothering them. Seems innocent to us but to them apparently it’s huge. Maybe we as women need to take a step back and just think about things before we do them. Think about if we heard of someone else doing it would we think they were crazy. If so, then it’s crazy.
